Oh yes...the novella
This project seems close to finished, or as good as I can make it. There were a few things I needed to learn before beginning again. Some character names were too alike (I've fixed them now), and the ending was unsatisfying; my heroine made no sacrifice. It was
Literary Fiction all along, and not YA as I thought, and the premise is strong, but it wasn't clearly stated in my first two queries!
In general, the idea must be more concrete so a wider range of readers will understand. What else will this story teach as I write the next revision?

Series nonfiction RFP
Opportunity doesn't knock. It's more like a whisper. This week, a request for proposal appeared unannounced via Gmail inbox. It was forwarded from an email address I abandoned over three years ago--so it's been at least that long since I queried the publisher. These random replies keep me writing when reason suggests another course. Good thing I'm too dumb to quit. It's become a valuable trait.
Two weeks 'til proposal deadline. Then we'll see what happens next.

Take away
"You don't notice the dead leaving when they really choose to leave you."--The Lovely Bones
It's been a long time since I trusted an author as much as
Alice Sebold. For years, I couldn't let go enough to fall inside a novel. It was fine to surrender with writing because the energy flowed outward, but to let unknown words take hold? It hadn't happened for awhile.

Worth the wait
I landed a long term contract where the client pays me to write, and I get to work from home in my rollers and pajamas. The situation is everything I ever dreamed, yet I almost did not recognize my own success. It's a bit like getting promoted to a job I've been doing for months. Except, it's self-employment, so instead, I've been doing it years!

There are people who do not see a broken playground swing
as a symbol of ruined childhood
and there are people who don't interpret the behavior
of a fly in a motel room as a mocking representation of their thought process... more
